Surfing through FB ,I was seeing some of the photos of friends getting married, settling down, happy, and a thought occured in my mind.
What will happen after we get married? Do we continue to be as social and as careless and as crazy as we are now or we just jump to a new level where you have to behave as Mature, decent, some limits and some boundaries.

Will we change ourselves to the new life which is on the way? I can't imagine behaving differently with my friends after I or they got married. Kunal...will I call him Goel Sa'ab in front of his wife :) or give Sameer respect :P just so that his position is maintained in front of his wife..

Or I will ask Rohit ki tujhe koi problem to nahin hogi...agar mein tujhse milne aa jaun...He will ask his wife and then let me know.
Changing behavior for one person, ok I know that person is important...but then again you are changing yourselves.
Pata nahin...what will happen? This only time will tell whether there will be formality in our relationships or still the warmth that we exert today.

Why I wrote this blog even I don't know. I am thinking about marriage? No. Not now. But may be almost everyone of my friends getitng married...some thoughts have started in my mind.

Boy,

What an experience!
Fresh blood always infuse a ray of hope.
I have high hopes from this bunch of guys.
May they take IIC to new levels. For all our failings, shortcomings & inabilities to do something great for the batch, I believe these guys will live my dream.

Taking IIC to new heights.
Stex!!! One thing I'll miss is this! To groom these people. There are so many things that need to be understood, learn. When my seniors had left no leaf unturned for me, why should I be left behind.
It is a thrill, a great responsibility as well so see the smooth transition.
IIC 25 is here minus one regret. I could have acted more assertively. Somehow this thing will always make me realize that ...

Neways, it becomes important that we act and do rather think at this stage.
I have great learnings from this whole process.

Leaving for Chandigarh 2 days after and will be coming back after 3 months.
Phew!!! Boy I am leaving too many open things...Index, Club, IIC, ...hope each find their torchbearers...

At the fag end of MBA, a sudden realization of so many things that should have been done. Missed opportunities...but then all part of life.

Some Sad State

It is with very heavy heart that I am writing this. I am not enjoying at all.
What are the reasons? I know. Too much politics in the air. People have their own agendas and how they can go to any length for it.
I am not able to achieve anything beyond a certain point. What has happened? The guy who used to be on top of things at all times now because of the people around him is finding himself very let down.

Again that sinking feeling is coming out as if something bad might happen.
Life is full of crap with no roses around.
Can I fight and if I have to how far can I go?

What is the point in having all these things? Shall I leave all this behind and do what my heart tells me to do? Too much burden of responsibilities on my shoulder and above all that this new agony of not being able to do something on one thing which should have been my Priority no. 1. What has become of me?

A Cynic and a broken person with very less hope? Sad figure.

Indian Elections 2009

The great Indian Election Festival has come to an end and UPA headed by Indian National Congress has emerged as the single largest coalition just a whisker short of the magic no. 272.

Its a good thing that my countrymen have voted for stability and a national party over petty issues of casteism and regionalism. Lalus, Mayawatis, Paswans, etc. of the country have bitten the dust.
Similar is the case with Left parties.
BJP though ignited the hopes of middle class with an alternative have themselves for blame for. Seems like they had lost their plot in between being too extreme on their nationalist policies and their support for communalism.
Not to forgot the fact that congress also is no Pavitra...1984 riots are still the burning issues(remember Jarnail Singh and Shoegate with PC)...
But Dr. Manmohan Singh has emerged as a clean and honest politician and BJP's strategy of converting this election on the lines of US presidential elections has sufered a big set back when Dr. Singh usually a soft person with few words launched a counter offensive against Mr. Advani for his alleged role in Kandhar, Jinnah's tomb mimics etc...

All in all, its a great opportunity for India to march ahead in these difficult times and we do needed a stable and strong Govt for the same.

Long gone should be the days when on every small policy issue, Left used to whip lashes on UPA.
Now they must reassess and its an existential issue for BJP. If they can't bring their act together and look for a generational change, I think they will lose this plot.
Modi cannot be the next harbinger of BJP. If they actually want to be Somebody in next elections, they should act fast.

For congress, though it looks promising with the youth brigade led by Rahul Gandhi ,the cause shouldn't be lost in the dynastic politics and filling their own coffers.

I would be disappointed if this young Rahul fail to deliver what he has promised.
Indians are expecting a lot from him.

In the end, it is a gradual change and people are understanding that developmental politics are there to stay. People are becoming increasingly aware of their rights. Sheila Dixit, Raman Singh, YSR, Nitish Kumar are just a few examples.

Hope to see a powerful India on foreign politics in coming time.We need to assert ourselves on that stage with so many neighbourbood problems boiling in Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal, Afghanistan.

I came to Gurgaon for my summer internship. I thought it to be a good break from the college life and Expected too much out of it.

Sadly none of that has happened.

Reducing a few inches, daily fitness regime to meeting all friends at NCR , reliving old times, spending quality times with family...what has happened?

I don't like the traffic. Seriously heavy traffic. people are driving bumper to bumper and its such hot out there.

Time, energy, petrol, temper everything you are losing & going for a toss.

More on it later...Seems like I might finally get a project here afterall...

Why do we need summer internship at an MBA school when we have so much of work experience?

This question always nagged me and I was not able to find/search the answer.

Till Mckinsey and BCG shortlists came and it was the first time I realized that I have arrived at an IIM.

It was a major booster and the preps which was a month long affair was a real eye opener.

I felt confident. Though inside I knew that it would be tough to get into the Firm, it showed me insights into things which I had read about only.

Taj dinners, pitches by consults, mentorship program...Whoa...it was some ride boy!

Marketing, consult, finance, general management, over hyped entrepreneurship, operations, I am still confused.

GE Commercial I would say might be a good thing. Working in a fin company and environment in this recession time gives you a totally different perspective about things in a finance company.

Who knows I might be a cunning banker or a PE guy cutting deals, doing M&As, under writings, etc.

Summers now I'm realizing is actually good,

For a single jobber like me I would say it helped me in seeing a different work environment. I now have some yard sticks after working in two Fortune 500 companies in the world.

Its also an experiment. Fin or not? I think at this time we can take this risk rather than later switching within a month for being a misfit in the environment.

You have time to actually do a lot of stuff.

I have read like anything in the past few days, not fiction work. News-political , business, art, technology etc and it is fun. It catapults your thinking to a different level.

Though I would say doing these things with a project at hand would be more fun , but then who says you get everything you want...

2009 will be a defining year for more than one reason.

First the General elections 2009.

There are 3 major coalitions this time around and who knows what will be the situation after the polls.

Indian politicians have reputations as Thali ke baigan.

The new govt will have many challenges of course. Most importantly how to face this global recession which has hit India touted as virtually non affected by crisis because of certain decoupling theories.

But as we see now as the days and events are unfolding that there is more to this recession that just financial system failure.

May be globalization.May be not. Past few years each country has become so much dependent on global events that it is impossible to be an island.

Global markets are run mostly by sentiments and with FII/FDI the biggest players in the capital markets the fall was imminent for Indian stock market as well.

We as a country has to see if we are resilient enough to bounce back and continue to the path to growth projected by some optimists at 9-10%.

India shining and for a moment I thought yes we have acheived something. Now no one can stop us from becoming the next world power.

I was wrong and so were the political & media pundits who were fooled by the NDA's surfacial and farce campaign.

Rosy pictures of India painted , the growth measured by the stock market thermometer and true bharat lost/hidden in the publicity blitz.

It led to BJP's fall & people understood the power of the common man.

Inclusive growth...We will see how this term became talked about in a later post.

Mount Abu: A walk through the memory lane

Why now??? Was just going through old photographs. Tried making a collage...
No doubt this trip of the 4 muskeeteers Ammu, Pulli ,Kannu and me was one of the best trips ever.Start was we booked 3-4 train tickets and in the end we all went by one reserved ticket-from Delhi to Mount Abu. Its a nice place. Serene and in the mountains. Got to see a culture different from Northern India...Gujju Samaj. The Thali system, boat ride, dilwara temples( miniature art work of modern Akshardham, but then it was all man made and w/o machinery, tussle at Brahmakumari HQ at Mt Abu , Highest peak of Rajasthan, Darghah of gareeb Nawaz, Muchhar photos of me and Ammu, sunset point, Ghats at Pushkar, Brahma's only temple in India, tanga ride, guided trip of Mt Abu...Nice place to be for 3-4 day trip, though we could have gone to Dwarkaji as well...All are now memories. And they will be forever.

As part of IIC, IIM Lucknow our work includes organizing Industry events at campus and outside.
We are the face of IIM Lucknow and are involved in any kind of industry interaction barring placements.
We arrange industrial visits, talks by eminent personalities from industry, functional workshops, competitions , case studies, live projects for students and what not!

Its been a great exposure so far. Good learning and working in such a dynamic team has its own experiences.

Last few days have been crazy...
Summers @ B school.
There are many aspects of a B school life which came to the forefront in these few days.

First of all , frankly I don't understand the use of a summer stint( 8 weeks) for a person who has already spent around on avg 3-4 years in industry.
But then there are so many things here which are old and have been left as such.

Got dinged by my dream companies.The Firm! Though if I look back, the effect it had on me was immense.
Such great people.Taj parties. But then some things are not meant to happen:( May be some day...May be some day in future....
I knew that I am not going to make it.Such inherent flaws in my approach.And its good that these things came out.
Now have an idea as to what I am lagging behind in...

Besides, they truly say that IIM L summer process is one of the best designed process.
I like the way senior batch is putting in their efforts for us (barring a few selected...no need to mention their ulterior motive)
Kudos to Sir Rocky to design such a huge operations process.

Coming down to friends.
I hate when such brilliant people are finding it difficult to get summers.
These are bad times.
Really bad times. But then is it our fault? Who is responsible ? With each passing day the frustration level of the batch is going up.
I dunno for how long will they be hiding the true facts.They will have to face the batch-either for their incompetency or the true scenario.
Either way its my batch which is at loss.
I sincerely hope that the whole batch gets placed.Desperate times need desperate measures.Lets all stand together.

Good to see that the students who are getting placed are putting in efforts for other people.
This is human spirit.

But overall, this summer experience has left many questions and has made me think as to what it will lead to?
Will I be a misfit in my summer job profile.
What was it that I wanted? And where I landed?
No regrets.At least it is there.Rite.That was the prime objective.
Now I should be more proactive in my approach.

My attitude needs an overhaul.There are many things which I need to work upon.
Sooner the better.

IIMized ...settling down

Its been time since I wrote ...
But then I had my reasons...I as someone said yesterday was IIMized whatever that means.Sounds similar to Annihilition...leave that.

Coming to IIM Lucknow nearly a month back and then immersing myself in the system here...Phew..how times fly..
I have left my old Happy go Lucky life behind...those were some days..
Now it is fightclub.RG giri whats known as in the common lingo here...

I got my laptop today after a long wait.
Busy with Mid Terms.Had horrifying experience as far as exams and quizzes are concerned..May be I will laugh at how big a free fall it is :)...
Sometimes I surprise myself with such performances...

W:Yes.Of course.Everybody feels when they end or start something.You are no different.Tell us the truth.

M:It is the Truth.But you could be right.It may not be now but sometime later for this FEELING thing to appear...Can you tell me how should I feel?

W:It is very Simple.There is a standard pattern.See..
Obviously you should be feeling Sad as you are leaving a place where you have spent 3 years.

W:Then,you should also feel Apprehensive as you are going to a new place.You see,the Change Phobia...

W:May be Happy as you are going b'coz you think/know you have got sth better than this.

W:Relieved as some sense of direction is there as far as your career is concerned.

Ek Ishtory ---height of vehladom

He always admired her.
Loved her.
But could not find the courage to tell her.
And she perhaps knew it.
Yet remained silent.
Both sit together,worked together,ate together.
He was always thinking of letting her know by some means.
Always failed.
She enjoyed his constant attention.
She always did.
But she was not to be the first to tell.
It had to be him.It always worked like it only.
With time,the things started becoming more difficult for him.
Work pressure,unsecure future,competitive world all were eating him.
She stood like a pillar behind him.
A strength.
Both shared their frustrations,their hopes,their dreams except for that one li'l and most important thing.
Both wanted to.
But...
It seemed that they didn't care for anybody else,anything else.
They and their small world,protecting each other,blossoming in their relationship.
Carefree...Happy...
And then it came.
It was like a storm.
She was going to be engaged.
Getting married.
There were tears in his eyes.
He did not know what to do.
Could not sleep for many days.
She called him to his house next weekend to meet him.
And they lived happily thereafter.

Real life stories are not that simple and in most cases do not end in the same happy ending.
They are complex,much more complex.
Lets talk about that in the next one..

Sayonara...Corporate for a while!!!

If I look back at my stay at CSC(around 3 years),its full of falls and rises.
An adventure where I got to understand people and behaviors better.
Ist thing was that I always thought that there are friends and Just friends and there are enemies who are just enemies.
Totally black and white approach.Either good or Bad.But my experiences have shown that its a wrong strategy,of course when you are in Corporates.Its only Grey which matters.
Everybody has dark shades to their lives in addition to the silver linings.
That was,in fact even today is a hard fact to swallow,but then who said that life provides easy respites.
When in corporate,even your enemy is your friend as he/she will be of use to you someday.
So basically its the person's utility which matters here and not anything else.What kind of person that he/she is...If he is useful,then a friend,otherwise wait for the time when he becomes useful.What a pity for human life.It has just become another commodity.Weighed in materialistic world.
2nd thing was prejudices people have without any sound logic.
Baseless and totally rubbish.That all without even talking to the person and knowing him/her.
You are typecast.And there you go.One can't really break out of that image.

Then you have to be assertive at all times.

Dressing is one aspect I am never good at.People ACTUALLY see the color of the socks you are wearing.Just kiddin' but then it is an important aspect.Impeccable Dressing sense.I am more of driven by what is comfortable and what is available,then to be really conscious about my dressings...
Friends,I have already said sth earlier.I think I have met some really nice people.Lets see if our relationships can withstand the time/space gap b'coz of my MBA and their liabilities.

Commitment to the job done,managers devising plans to screw their subordinates(You have to cry to be heard...),what to do and what not to do...Its been a Great experience.
Some people I hated in the first instance,some girls I fell in love at the first meeting itself,some friends were like brothers,some people I admired for their behavior and some I wondered that such people exist...
Darrubazz,tee totaller,veg non veg,bengalis,tamils,kanaddas,malayalis,punjabis,Upites,biharis,europeans,Americans,chinese...such of a cultural blend.
Coming from a small town,it was a learning to meet such a mix and varied blend of people.

I matured.I matured as a person.My thinking became more of independent.Though I have maintained my reputation of being playful and kiddish.Deep inside I knw that I can take much better decisions now.Jittery but I will make it.Still confusion and lack of confidence at places,but when on my own,I can stand even the worst of bakar bazzs.(But then I am No 1;)
Got to know how companies are run,strategies,marketing,bids,competition,trainings so much...Will take time to assimilate.May be when I am a li'l older,I will appreciate much better what I have achieved.May be not...
But I am leaving CSC on a high note.
Yes,there were bitter feelings,with quality of work,2 yr bond,kinda people I met,recognition and growth chances..but that is past.You condone when you reach a particular stage.
And here I am...Sometimes I think it was all part of the system,of which we all have become habitual of.Certain goods and bads...But then who said life is all about BLACK n WHITE...
Its all colorful and you will find every type of color here.

I have had my fair shares of rainbows as well as clouds...

First effects of Hel(L)

I am through L.
I don't know whether to be Happy that I finally got it or relieved that it got over.
Having very mixed feelings.All your life you keep on fighting for certain things and when you achieve them,you feel confused.I wanted this?
Its a predicament which everybody face at one point or other.
When I read the IIM blogs,people say that their lives have changed.For good or for worse,they don't even know.I want to be intact.Happy,Honest,Happening guy.
I just don't want to become what they say as "Another Brick in the Wall".I want to carve a space for myself.People lose how to feel when they are at a B school.They become antipaths to the sufferings of the common strata.Like they are in a different world away from ground realities.
If I can come out of this rigorous schedule of 2 long winding years with my conscience with me,I would be more than happy.I know its very pessimistic of me to think about these things when I should be at the top of the world.May be I am scared.Scared because of the change.B'coz of the ocmfort level that I have put myself in and these are just withdrawl symptoms.May be I'm expecting too much.
Lets see how things shape up at the Nawaabi Sheher.
Till then,its all fingers crossed...

Inflation...

What is inflation?It is in headlines in every newspaper/media and is being considered as the biggest threat for UPA Govt losing elections.
Lets try to understand some things about it.

Definition: Inflation in simple terms is the measure of the Price hike of certain necessary commodities of daily use.
If the inflation is high,we say that the prices of the things we purchase are on high.It is calculated on annual basis as percentage increase or decrease of a particular index(In India we use WPI)

How is it calculated: We have an index WPI(Wholesale Price Index),which is the measure of wholesale prices of a basket of goods/basic items like food items,Fuel etc.

A base value is set(Lets say 100 for year 1978).There would be ups and downs in the prices of goods.WPI would capture that.
And inflation is simply the %age increase/decrease of WPI.

Now is inflation all Bad?
And the Govt should try to have zero or -ve inflation?
The answer is NO!!!

Lets see the reason.Suppose,the Govt needs to set up a capital intensive project.It would require a huge investment on it.
May be moneytization(Printing of currency,borrowings etc).The money comes in the market.People now have more capital at their disposal(Liquidity).They can buy more.(Greater Purchasing Power)Demand increases.Supply is constant.So naturally prices will increase.Result Inflation rises...So inflation is a by Product of any Growth oriented economy.If you want growth,inflation would be there.
We can't have Growth and Inflation mutually exclusive.
Over a period of time,my Project will start giving returns.A break even point and after that Profits only.

So a +ve inflation is necessary for the growth purposes.

Impact: Organised Private sector (Read IT,corporate have good salaries)...Rich class no effect.
Govt employees get DA(Dearness Allowance)...The major affected party is the Poor Indians.People below poverty line.
They won't be able to buy even the basic necessities.
So Govt should try to curb inflation.

Tools to Control inflation: RBI ha smany monetary tools to control inflation.One is to increase the interest rates at which it lends to the Banks.Since getting money is now expensive :) so less capital.People will buy less.Again Supply -Demand Scenario and prices will fall.
SLR-Statutory Liquidity Ratio...%age of total deposits which banks need to deposit with the RBI.If SLR ratio is increased,less capital and hence again prices will fall.
CRR-Cash Reserve Ratio...Amount which the banks have to keep with them.If CRR is increased,again less capital at disposal and Prices will fall.
So we see that the RBI uses its monetary policy,these tools to control the Liquidity in the market and hence inflation.
When and how to do it.And by what value.These are some of the questions which RBI Governor has to mull over before making any decision.

Its Mohabbat for a Aashiq for his beloved,Ishq for Sufis for their Khwaja,prem for Gopis for their Krishan,Mother's love for her child...and so on.
What is Love?(Okies don't laugh!I do think about this question)
Various connotations.But aaj hum baat karenge Ek Aashiq aur Mehbooba wale pyaar ki...

Been hearing/experiencing so many breakups.Young people fall in love at age when they don't know the meaning of it.
Promises made,broken...relationships,commitments.Many fail in the final hurdle and only a few lucky ones get their dildaars.(God Bless u guyz..)
Why do relationships fail?Why is that most of the times love doesn't end up into marriage?Why is that the person you think you will lay your life for and have devoted your life to suddenly become so distant,so far,so stranger,so enemy that you start hating him/her?

Love means giving.To give your all for your beloved's Happiness.It doesn't matter whether you are with him/her.What matters is that wherever he/she is,enjoying life.No problems at all.
Relationships don't work all the time.At that time,you have to let go of things.If its yours it will come back.If it doesn't,may be its the best for both.Don't expect.

Commitment:Girls want very early commitment in a relationship most of the times.Boys usually take some time to take responsibilities.Usually afraid of the society,peer pressure and parental fears.This thing I have noticed again and again that Indian Girls are more vocal,more bold,more proactive and more open about their Love life.Usually they are the ones who talk to their parents first,breaking the age old conservative traditions.How many times one sees that people back out from commiting to the relation,b'coz they have to make their career or look after some other things in life.They want to concentrate at one thing at one time.
And I think this is the biggest mistake one can make in life:(...
Love is never a hindrance to your progress.Rather it is the light which guides you through rough times,through dark periods...It is the force which motivates you to achieve BIG.In every happiness or sorrow,loved ones have to be together.
It cannot happen that you embark upon some quest,journey leaving your beloved behind and expect that he/she will wait!No wayzzzzz...Only a very-2-2 strong feeling and luck can get you your love back in case you choose you so after your achieving ath or making your career.

I was discussing with Gaurav and Simmo yesterday about how people 'Gherao' you to enquire about your Salaries.
The Word is the 'PACKAGE'.
Beta kitna package hai???They ask so shamelessly without even bothering the courtsey that kisi se kisi ki salary (oops package) nahin poochna chahiye.
In IT industry you must have come across a lot of Uncles and Aunties (U don't even know them,thats the funny as well as annoying part) coming to your place or you going to their houses for XYZ reasons.
And the moment you tell that you are in IT,bang comes the comparison.
Mere XYZ bhai ki XYZ Beti ka Husband is earning 8 lac per month...Wats urs?
Uska to college bhi theek hi hai?Foren trips lagte hain har doosre mahine..

Ab aap yeh sab mujhe kyun bata rahe ho?
Kaun se Company...CSC?Infy mein nahin mili kya job(That was the funniest...)
And sometimes you get a call...abc company mein ladka/ladki is working.Uske baare mein pata karo...Koi to Rishta aaya hai.Saari Janam kundli...Comes the Mr Sherlock Homes Part..

IT sector boom has raised the expectations of millions of people.People are earning loadsa more than their previous generation.
But certain ettiquettes are required.No salary didclosure/asking on part of everybody.Why embarass us?Why should I tell my salary to every Aira Gaira,Nathu Khaira...

GD/PI at 10:00 AM at IIM L Noida Campus

Reached venue at 9:45 AM.
It was cool atmosphere.

There were 30 students in the morning batch.
We were divided in 3 Panels.
I was in panel 2.

We were asked to write on the topic 'A successful man is not one who has ability to eliminate problems before they occur,but who can face the difficulties as they arise and solve them'.(9 were present out of 10)
We were given 30 minutes to write 500 words essay on it.

The GD on the same topic started immediately after the writeup was taken from us.
It was a decent GD.Everybody had ample time to speak.There were 2-3 good speakers.
I made 3-4 entries.In the end we were steamed out of ideas.
Overall,no fish market and average one for me..:(..Thought I could have spoken a few more times.Not satisfied.

We were called in the same order as we were called for GD sitting.

I was 5th in my panel for interview.

There were 2 people in the panel.A young lady(YL) and an experienced person(EP).
I am AR here.

YL:Asked for my certificate file.
EP:So you are a Gold medalist

Seemed to be a total Random/Lottery process.

The funny part was that there were 18 PECobians in the morning batch.

In my panel only,there were 6 students from PEC.They asked about a particular subject whether it was there in college.And my roomie and Senior Aman said it was,I said it wasn't and I dunno what Aditya(my junior ) said to it.So I guess they were playing with us...God bless us!!!

Omnipotent God

God must be having a free will.God is Omnipotent i.e. God can do whatever he/she wants to do.(Basically Free will)
God can look into the future also.And if he/she can look into the future,he/she knows what is there in the future,which shows that all his/her choices are pre-determined which is contradictory to the statement that God has Free will.
And if he can't look into the future, he is not Omnipotent.

Omnipotence is then a very Tricky concept..u see:)

1st person was grilled on Work Ex

2nd on Extra Curr

3rd I dunno...was 13 Year Work Ex Deputy General Manager in BSNL:)

P1 and P2

Most of the questions were asked by P1 and P2 asked just one question in the end about why I choose the particular personality for the most influential person?

P1 grilled me on various aspects.

Start with My surname Jindal and was I related to the Jindal Group.And questions about Family Tree and whether it is possible to have same surname with different root at the highest level...2 min(approx)

He then asked about my opinion of the GD.When I said it was a decent and peaceful GD,with most of the points covered but 1-2 remaining.He asked me to list all the points.

I told him ones which I think were not discussed.I told 5-6 ..and he kept on asking...Nthen I said I don't know any more....Here I think was the turning point of my interview.

In retrospect,he wanted me to say again one point about 'Cross Culture Differences' which I raised during GD and was one of the strongest points of the whole GD.I dunno I was completely blanked off in interview abt this particular point.And I knw (Now having this Gut feeling and instinct that he wanted to grill me on this Culture thing)And it wud have been a gr8 interview...But since I missed...So here is what happened thereafter...

He asked me about my present work.4-5 minutes grilling and he convinced me that the work which I am doing is very-2 routine and not challenging at all.

Here comes the ultimate point of my interview:

So you are a Computer Engg.

Yups

Tell me about compilers...I told

Now my requirement is to have a Language independent and Hardware independent Compiler...Design it for me...3 yrs since I left studies...N compiler design of all the things.Bowled out.Blabbered sth...But was not convincing...4 minutes...Kept on grilling...he shayad was Exasperated and said...Okies I got what U wanna tell

Do you knw abt Memory Paging?

I am gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A bit sir...I tried to explain...Whole memory management of the OS was discussed of which I last studied 4 yrs back...Had a very vague idea.Again not a very good performance.Again faltered on when he asked how hashing is used in Memory management...said sth...But I was not sure.

He then passed me to P2 who asked just one question as mentioned earlier.

Duration was approx 20 -22 minutes...

And It was over.And I am not satisfied at all.One of the most imp interviews of my life .

Cud have done so much better...But then...Its only that far that you can go.Limits...Yeah Limits are there.I now know.All the time I was preparing on Work ex,why MBA types,SOP based questions and what I was asked was Acads...which was not my best bet for IIMB.:(

Shayad isi ko Destiny kehte hain...Took sm time to come out of it.And now looking fwd...Hope sustains life...And I am here to live...

One thing abt the panel.Most professional atmosphere.

And when I was interacting with Profs...lag raha tha ki IIM B ke Profs hain.Aura or watever,they were very learned,distinguished and professional.Cool thru'out the interview.Was very much impressed with them.

IIM B or no IIM B ...I have my lifetime experiences and my learnings.And believe me...Its been a helluva experience.Came to knw so much abt me and myself...

With this the end of season for me.And long wait for the results...

Yaar, I having pain in my chest.
Watttt?Kahan hai?I am coming...

Scene 2:
Fortis
(Somehow I have this Love/hate relationship with these Private Hospitals...
You know you will get best treatment out there and needn't worry but at the same time my socialist part keep wondering about the scenario 'if there were no Govt Hospitals,these people would have looted/robbed us of every single penny)
Imagine a guy sitting at reception of a Big Private Hospital saying to an elderly person whose son is battling for life.
Sir,we have package deals here.
2 days,3 nights its Rs 20,000 Taxes Extra:) and 3 days,4 nights you get our special customer discount of 3%.(As if I am gonna be their permanent customer or wat?).
Hospitals are meant for healthcare.Nobody really want to visit them...

Neways,we went inside...
Straight to Emergency.
The lady doctor asked "You from Software Industry".
And Bang....
All sorts of tests were done on him...ECGs(Twice),blood pressure,and that small TV like equipment which keep showing all your cardio stats...
Told to reduce stress,take it easy,improve lifestyle...blah-2.You from S/w industry--smoking must be a permanent feature.Stop it.I mean people have so many misconceptions about IT industry.It is just like any other profession.And if some people don't have proper Work-life balance you can't put the whole IT industry under scanner.
Personally I feel,IT walahs are among the most vehlas of the Lot.(More on it later ,if I get time)

Neways:
Scene 3:
Diagnosis--Acidity:).That was the only funny part.
They gave him injections for that and not the usual stuff 'ENO' etc.I really was angry when they told me that the injection was for Acidity.But then we ourselves have put our lives in their hands and their hands in our Pockets:)

Even after that another ECG was done to be xtra sure.I don't mind it.
We are living away from our parents.And health should be our utmost priority.
But it was evident that it was just to increase the bill and prolong my friend's stay.(Nurses were talking in hush...he has acidity but how can we let him go so early...:-|)Their performance appraisal was at stake I s'pose...

Chalo,everything went well.We heaved a sigh of relief.Went straight back home.

During those 2 hours,I thought Is what all I am doing worth it?
What if something happens to me tomorrow,Just Like that...chutki baja ke...:)Kahani khatam,paisa ..woh to kabhi aaya hi nahin:)
All this fight for colleges,High salary,better life...
And it has really put me to think beyond the present things.

We all are sacrificing our present for want of better future.
Will the future be better,I dunno...Thats a debate again...Its a mad race out there.
But our presents definitely are suffering...And what for?
Seriously ...What for?And I am stil thinking.

So a bit piece of advice:(I am sounding like a consultant ;) abhi se...)

Khao Peo aish karo mitron...
Dil par kisi da dukhayo na!!!

Save some money for emergencies.
Take care of your health.Don't let go the precious moments/family members/friends/girl friends(Ok nahin hai to.. try-2-2-2 again) you have.Enjoy your Life!

All these fights,Egos, are meaningless.Most of the times we don't realize the importance of the persons in our lives.Take them for granted.Its only when they are outta it,we come to know what an important and precious part of heart they were...
But then you can't do anything about it.

Again some very Simplistic info about Open Source.

I always used to wonder from where the Open Source Companies are earning their revenues.
Got the Privilege to work for one as my client.Sun Microsystems Inc is a pioneer in the Open Source Arena.
And now some understanding is begining to dawn upon me.

What is Open Source?

Open source is a development method for software that harnesses the power of distributed peer review and transparency of process. The promise of open source is better quality, higher reliability, more flexibility, lower cost, and an end to predatory vendor lock-in.(Courtsey www.opensource.org)

Here are features of it:

1.) We have free software to use.No dependence on an expensive or monopolistic vendor(Like MS WIndows used to had before Linux grabbed the market).

2.)There are a lot of brilliant people who work for the development of the product,which the company otherwise cannot employ(they either want to work independently or the company can't afford them).Its a distributive environment where employees from a company work with Open source communities to develop.test the product.

3.)People have emotional attachment to the product.Main reason Java was a hit because so many people actually worked and proposed changes.It became a programmers' language.

4.)Though it is difficult to manage change in this scenario,it leads to innovation with so many brains working.

5.)Profits...now where do profits come from?We are not here for charity.We need to pay our employees too.
An example for Mozilla will make things clear.
Mozilla earns triple amount in revenues than its expenses from Google alone by placing a link to Google on its task bar.
Other business models may include --End to end services -professional licensing,maintenance,trainings,development courses etc...This is how the Open Source Companies make profits or stay afloat.

6.)Free distribution of software/product leads to more usage and improves the subscriber base.Mozilla now has 15 percent of market share in internet browsing despite the fact that it is not shippable with hardware machines.
So it is an independent decision on part of consumer to see...

And just an after thought.May be in future some of our IP related problems are solved by this model...(Need to check on this though)

Thought a bit and here I am after a long hibernation!!!

India is a young country.
We are just 60 years old and aroung 450 million of our population is below 24 years of age.(Please chk the figure)...

So if we can give a country like USA,time which has been free and on her path for 200 years,I think we ought to give India her time also.

The problem I think not lies in our doings but in what we do.
We as a nation lack a VISION.
There is no driving force which binds us all together towards a common goal.

See from the past,whenever we are united(by Kings or leaders) we have ruled the world or beaten it...

Take for example---Ashoka,Gupta Dynasty,Akbar period and lately Mahatma Gandhi's quest to unite the country...

These were periods where the whole country came together under a single umbrella and for a common cause...

Ancient kings should be given due credit for this unification.
Their motives may be imperialistic in nature but they helped us a nation.
They had a vision for a United India...

Mahatma's success was largely based on this.He gave masses at large a Vision.
When even a poor farmer from deep pockets of rural India knows that British are evil and driven out of this country,naturally his Karma(all his energy is concentrated towards that vision)...

We got united and we got Freedom.

Alas!Due to vested political interests(will write more on this),again divisons were there and we could not progress.

As there was not a defined path for us as a Nation to take,it took to confusiona and chaos.

Dr APJ Abdul Kalam did try and gave us India 2020 vision.
And see all our Govt policies are directed in that way.
If China can do it by vision of Mao,why not India?

So I agree in Principle with Hameed that we need Thinkers.
But what Apurv is saying becomes more relevant in this case as we need thinkers who know the Ground Realities.They should not be the ones who are sitting in plush corporate rooms but should be ones who have risen from the masses,who have seen it and understand the problems.

I would have expected more from Dhirubhai Ambani to do for masses than his sons because he was there with Bharat,while his sons were always in India....

Much more can be said on what went wrong and how we can recitify our follies.
Lets keep pouring...

Sub Prime Crisis...

My Supply of information on Sameer's demand:

Markets are driven by Supply and Demand.If there is demand of anything,supply for it will automatically come.
So what is the demand in this case?Borrowers with less Credit worthiness-either defaulters on their previous loans,higher risk with lower income or poor credit history.
They need money rite?Even if they haven't paid on their old or have bad reputation on previous debts.They are not getting from anywhere else.
Hence a market is created for such lendings.

Here comes into picture the Lenders who lend/loan money to these people.
Whats the catch???
Of course there is risk involved.But you charge them high interest rates.So you will make money.

Sub prime name---not Prime i.e. not lending to Primary Borrower.

Now the situation has various angles:

There's packaging of loans in good incentives when you are attracting people to take loans from you.
You are required to pay only the interest.
Theres a term ARMs(Adjustable Rate Mortgages)...Initially there's a low interest rate which gradually rises or get adjusted.

Now we have borrowers with poor credit history, lenders who are giving them loans in better packaging schemes.

In financial markets,risker the scheme,more returns it may return.
Same concept here.
So now if my borrower is defaulting again on his loan,only a few lenders/financial institutions who give Sub Prime Lending should suffer/be in losses.But as we all know,its a global crisis.How???

MBS (Mortgage Backed Securities)...In market,you can sell anything...ANYTHING.
So what these Sub prime lenders do?They spread the risky portfolio.
Again good packaging,SIV(Special Investment Vehicles) are created and these mortgages are sold to banks,Hedge Funds,financial institutions.:)
Now you are beginning to understand all this.Rite?

Big Financial Institutions,Investment Banks,Banks,Private Equity Firms all buy such things as Insurance Policies,Mortgages,Loans,etc so that they get to have benefits.(Its a profitable investment business...think about it)...

The problem...

High interest rates led to bursting of US Housing Bubble.
Defaulters on loan again.Though sub prime lendings form only 6.8% of total housing lendings,the foreclosures were > 40% for this.
Falling Housing Prices also added Ghee to the Fire.You cannot actually refinance on a depriciating asset.(Or can you?)
Panic.Of course...

Many Sub Prime Lenders file for bankruptcy.And the effect was cascaded.Where ?To all the banks,hedge funds,investment vehicles...and eventually Stock Markets.
Banks started selling these mortgages at throw away prices.
Around $80 billion losses so far have been recorded.
N its just the begining.Remember I mentioned ARMs....Now the rates are going to be adjusted to higher levels...

Don't you people worry.
The situation is dreary.But the Govts are also awaken up to this Crisis.
New bailing out options have been there....

But the times are to be cautious...And big no to Sub Prime Lending at least for the present time...

Whether Luxury Brands accept 'Made in India' Tag?

An article appeared in Business Standard today discussing the luxury brand's negative bias towards India.
Recent denial by Orient-Express luxury Hotels to collaborate with Tata's Indian Hotel Company and issues with the Land Rover/Jaguar Deal involving interested Indian parties has led to this conclusion that India still has to travel a lot to be a name in Luxury Brands.

Branding means adding appeal,meaning and value to products and services.Luxury Brands have been a forte of Western Europe with not even US and Japan able to penetrate no matter how hard and how good products they manufacture.
India is seenin the globalized world as a cost saving IT services destination.
Mass scale back-end services is very different to manufacturing luxury products.

'Made in India' tag as of now does not project the image luxury brands project.Consumers demand premium brands whereas luxury brands comamnd the consumer.

The brand faithfulness is deep penetrated in the minds of its consumers.Mercedes is still ahead even after better offerings from Lexus.

Brands have huge value.Around 30% of global wealth is in form of intangible assets such as Brand Value.
Phillips Morris bought Kraft for about 6 times its annual earnings.More than company and its products,it wanted its Brand.

Acc to Unilever Pears Soap is the first commercial brand in the world.

As far as India is concerned ,Global consumer firms outsourec -Manufacturing,design and distribution to India but keep the brand and earn huge margins from it.

India will have to wait to earn its place in the luxury segments.

SEZ-Special Economic Zones in India

Here's my 2 cents on this issue.

At the time of independence,India's share of world trade was around 2.4%.
It decreased to a level of 0.5 % in the years that came and was stagnant at this very level for 4 decades.
The main reason was the neglect of exports and the ISI(Import Substitution Industrialization)to protect their infant industries.
The Asian countries like Taiwan,South Korea succeeded in exports with their cheap products.
The going was tough for India.
But of late the govt has started taking initiatives in this direction and first EPZ(export processing zone) was set up at Kandla in 1967.Later Export Councils were also set up.

China too took steps in this direction and 6 SEZs were set up alongwithg 120 free trade zones there.
The Chinese Economy is now for everybody to see as these zones alone attract $60 Billion of investment which is 10 times that to total foreign investment in India.

India took lesson from the great Chinese success story and SEZs are also being set up here.

Advantages:

a.)Indian Govt does not have long term funds to develop industries of its own.
   Some kind of private partership is highly needed.
b.)To attract Foreign investments.
c.)Giving tax rebates is only a way to attract the investors.
d.)India has many targets to achieve--reducing poverty,creating more jobs,GDP growth of 9% or higher.
All this can be achieved and SEZs are a wonderful tool to do this.

e.)Massive industrialization can be done by this way.

Disadvantages/Issues:

a.)There is controversy on Govt's policy of acquiring farmers' land for developing SEZs.
It has resulted in the Real Estate developers getting large chunks of lands at a throw away prices.
And the farmers are agitating on not adequately compensated for their lands.
The possible solutions can be:
        a.1)Non fertile or at the max lands with one crop only should be acquired for SEZ development.
        a.2)Let the private companies approach the farmers directly and pay the market rates.Govt can act as a facilitator.
        a.3)The farmers whose lands have been taken should be given employment in the SEZs/training in the required skill sets for the same.

It should be a win-2 situation for all the parties.

b.)There is talk and comparison of India again going the imperial way.Like in the past,we had Rajas and their riyasats.
This issue if valid,Govt can have regulatory authority over the SEZ functioning.

Most of the times it is the political leaders who are against the SEZ just to generate enough propaganda and gain some political milege out of this.
People should be made aware of the benefits which they will get out of this.
But then again that needs a political will to set the things right.

In this case,I would say that the wheel has been set in motion.And this is the wheel of progress which will lead India as a power in the Global World.Let it keep rolling!!!

IIMs are the best institutes in India for MBA education.No doubt.
But I sometimes think,is it worth spending another year in a race where the probability of your making is decreasing each year(statisticaly of course)...
For non-medical students,first its IITs,so many drop 1 yr...365 days phew!!!.
looks like nothing if you get to the top.But 1 yr goddamn...ask who has to be a junior to his school mates in the very clg he didn't take admission last yr...

same is with MBAs...
I asked one of my friends who is pass out from IIM bangalore.
What is the time to do MBA---rite after clg or after some work ex...
He said"MBA has now become a necessary evil.Sooner the better"
get over this MBA thing.
There are so many other things in life one can do.

IIMs are good.But please look into these factors also when you are thinking of again giving CAT leaving current good options u have(except IIMs of course)...

1.)You have to compete with BACK LOG. And every year its increasing.ppl who are better or at least equal to you inmotivation,work ex and tayari...
2).You screw your apraisals at your company for 1 more yr.What the heck!
But think,such attitude is wrong ethically.

3.)Then there is this thing called luck.Who is damn sure to get into IIM?

My IIT JEE faculty quoted one thing(Dropper's Batch 2000)

See Boyzzz....I know you all have put so much at stakes by being here.
But I must warn you.
Fresher will always have this advantage over you.They are strong at hearts.N you somehow will have this itching , a weakness in your heart...Dhak-2 ...Agar is baar bhi???/

I may be totally wrong in my opinions here.
Just wanted that people keep these things in mind also...

Free yet Caged!!!

Phew!!!

My service contract with CSC completed on Nov 16,2007.

I am no longer a Bonded Technical Labor.
I am a free bird...now.
Its a happy feeling.
So much I have suffered because of this.
But this question comes to my mind many times.
Am I really free?

No..would be the first answer.
Legally I am free.
But my spirit,it is caged.
So much in comfort zone,I have forgotten to fight,to move forward,to
look ahead...
Many a times,I used this Bond thing as an excuse for my inabilities to
perform,to move forward...How very stupid!
Sitting,cribbing,stagnating at the same place.Thats not a free
person's identity.

"Jinhein jaana tha,woh chale gaye,
Jo bach gaye woh kaabil nahin the?"

I don't know.And I am scared because I don't the answers.I hate it
when I don't know the answers.

Happy that I will have now more control over my life,my decisions on
the professional front.

Initiative is what I can improve upon...
I should be clear what I want and only then I will act strongly and
positively in this manner...my Mid Term Review.

Steps need to be taken.Shaken from this slumber.

So much potential,so much wastage,so many promises,so many breakages...

Will I bounce back and be a Free Person in real sense,lets see...
But its high time that something should be done.
And it will be done.

I am not sure how things will shape up for me...keeping my fingers crossed.

There has been a lot of speculation again this year due to answer keys
of various institutes not conforming to each other.

varying scores,students hopes balancing with a very thin thread...
What will happen?

Thankfully was brought to earth by a moderator of Pg.com...

What will happen will happen and that too in due course of time.
We have to be GODS to forecast the %ile and the calls now.
The coaching institutes did it last yr...raising and then breaking the
hopes of many.
This year also the story is same...

A lesson to be learnt.

Forget about the Result(karmanayei va dhi ka raste....)

Phal ki ichha mat kar...
Apna Karam kar...

Nothing will happen with this speculations...Wastage of energy.
Kuch bhi ho sakta hai...Remember one Guy who was getting in VA 50-60
acc to all keys and in actual IIM result got 10...Fish man!!!And he
filled the forms for FMS and XLRI and didn't go to paper after these
predictions by coaching institutes that he will get calls definitely.
False hopes,u r a goner...

Try to focus on the things what are there in your control.
Try hard for other exams...
Fill all the forms and apply to all the colleges you have in your list...

There are certain things in life which should be left as such and
which take place in due course of time.

Tum apna Farz nibhate chalo...

Whats in store...u will get.

Why do people leave company?

Many reasons can be attributed to this:

a.)Better pay package
b.)Better Work
c.)Growth in terms of exposure.
d.)Brand Name
e.)Work/area/field/technology is of their liking
f.)Problems at present organization
g.)Peer Pressure

There may be many other but these are the main ones.

Why to stay in a company?

Growth,exposure,money,work...if all are good.
You have reached a comfort Zone and you may be afraid of treading into unchartered waters...
You do not have the wherewithal to give interviews.
You want to settle down and phew...stop this mad race
You are satisfied with what you have..Holistic approach towards life and other considerations to be kept in mind like you are married ,have kids so that
thing will also come into picture.

Corporate Culture

There is an article which I read on ' Career Imprinting'.
The company where you spend your initial years mark a strong impression
on you.
There is a distinct GE culture,Bain culture,Infy or TCS culture.

How would this imprinting define/describes the behavior of the personin
later stages of his career is the point to be seen.
Like GE known as the 'CEO factory' has a very decentralized culture and
a person gets a chance early on to make decisions.
While at some companies,there is centralized organization structure
which leads to always looking for perfection and details before passing
on the decision making baton to other person usually at a higher level...

Our thinking gets moulded by this.may be because initial years are the
most impressionable.

I,but wonder sometimes about this corporate culture.
When I joined my company as a fresher, a whole new project was on its
way.And total recruitment was done from the industry.
We were all new to the company--laterals and freshers alike.Barring 1-2
persons,all were new.

So whats the culture at my place.
Well it was an amalgam of all the different thinkings of various people
from different organizations.All joined to form a new
culture--informal,friendly

,hierarchy based(i hated this thing)...While
the original company culture could be altogether different...

So,culture for me is not hard bound and rigid.
It is an evolving process,one which should be encouraged to encompass
all the better things and leave apart the bad ones...

Google initially started as a search engine,is growing at a phenomenal pace.
It is already among the top companies in the world with its huge market
capitalization and the impact it has on the millions of internet users
round the world.
Google has changed the way people gather information.
Largest Search engine with the motto 'Don't be evil' differentiate
Google from the firms with capitalistic designs and creating a
philosophy of its own-helping Humanity by being more informed.

Google has come a long way from its initial niche of the search
engine.It now offers enterprise level solutions to the companies,owns
social networking sites,gmail,google news and plans are to release
Google OS with a whole suite of office applications.
And all of these free of cost to the common user(except enterprise
solutions).
The business model lies in its subtleity...those small sponsored links
which you get when you search,read your mail etc.
Total revolution of the online advertising.
Gmail...who would have thought of Free memory > 4 GB on emails...don't
delete anything was the idea behind forcing other companies to increase
the size of their mail accounts.

Success comes at a price and same is the case with Google.
From newspapers and book publishers,to telecom companies,to small
businesses to politicians,everybody is baying for its blood not to
mention the big corporates like MS and Yahoo!
There was controversy when Google firewalled its search for China.But I
think that was sound business decision.To be it or not...one has to make
hard choices and China is the largest population with > 100% user growth
in internet.

Google is now the largest database of people's
preferences,interests,likings

,thinkings...A haven for any Marketing
company ,social scientist or Government anti-privacy lobby alike.
This database can be dig out from various angles revealing different
results.
Whether Google is able to maintain the confidence by keeping
confidentiality is a thing to be seen and will ultimately define it
among the league of Great companies.

A quick point on Rupee Appreciation

Rupee Appreciation against dollar is being projected as something which will lead to the downfall of the Indian Economy.
Some views.
Firstly,dollar itself is falling.American Market slowdown...

Secondly,India's Import is much large than her exports.So overall we are at an advantage.
The case is that the exports are more in limelight and volatile in nature

Personally I would like my currency to be at par with other currencies.
When we got independence, 1 $ was 15 Rupees.
Repeated devaluation has led to the price touching 50 even.

Another reason for my not being going to US...:)Keep it Up Rupee...

Bobby Jindal's Win

Bobby Jindal won the Gubernatorial Poll in Louisiana,US making him the
first Indian-American to be elected Governor of a US state,the highest
post by an Indian in US.
I was happy when I heard this news,maybe because of I share my surname
with him,some sort of connection.We,Indians,always sentimental.His
achievement made me proud."One of us" has done it.Bobby(Piyush)
Jindal,son of Indian Migrants from Malerkotla,Punjab is a shining
example of that Great American Dream which millions have aspired for.
A whizkid,with great accomplishments at such an early age(he is just
36,youngest Governor of a US state),Bobby has held positions of
importance in the Govt earlier also.

Much will be expected of him though.Louisiana is the poorest state in US
with lowest development parameters after it was devastated by
Hurricanes-Katrina and Rita.It will be a challenge for him to
reconstruct the state.1/3rd of population is Non White Americans whose
support is usually with Democrats.

Another thing which I found was his extreme Social Conservative Ideology.

He is a staunch Catholic Follower(his conversion from Hinduism to Christianity at 18 is also questionable),is against abortions,gay marriages,is anti gun-control, is a

believer in the Ten Commandments,is against Hollowood and TV for spreading indecency.Hmm.. a long list.Whether he will be able to justify his election and put in action
such hard measures in the society is still to be seen.

From India's perspective,Bobby Jindal belongs to a party which has generally been against immigration.How he handles the core party policies and still creates a niche place for himself
vis a vis Indian Americans is yet to be seen

As for now,hats off to him for this great victory.

First Me.Then My friends.My social circle.Country,World.
It applies everywhere.

Am/Was I intelligent?
What has changed? My perception about myself has changed.If I look truly deep inside myself,I find potential no doubt,but then everybody has it,Wit,Okie,,sarcasm rite ...Fear of certain things(Y)...and lot many things which I still need to unfathom.
I thought I am this Big shot,intelligent Guy who will conquer the world."Yatha naam tatha Gun"..,I made a prediction.But did I prepare?What qualities except Intelligence were needed.

Confidence...I Lost it on that fateful day.What was the reason.Expectations...
Hardwork ...When was the Last time I did that?
Focus...C'mon...
Destiny...Hide and seek
Clear thoughts/Actions...Fused

/confused Mind...
Profile..Alwayz in limelight,Wen you are aiming high one outta forget that he is part of the main strata.Kinda Tapasaya..alone...

I had all of them.Why they have changed?The start was good.Lost in the middle and still lost.

Getting alonwith time

Time is really a great teacher.

I thought many a times about getting mature as early as possible.
But it not an abrupt process.It takes only time to make me maturer day by day.
It is a slow and steady one,takes its own time and with each realization,you say Wow! where was it before?

More mature in thoughts,clarity in actions,focus on right things: this is what the response I got from my senior when I asked him,what has changed in him.
I liked his statement.

Adversity is also a great teacher.
When in crisis and no where to go,you dig hard,trying to root cause the situation.
And with that exercise,comes a new perspective,A new way of looking at the things.

People change with time,I hate it.One day they are glued to you like inseparables and the next day,same poles of a magnet.

Right now,I am in that very exercise of self analysis and contemplation.
The things which should have become clearer long ago are begining to be visible now.
No repentence though on the sufferings of this late cognizance.

Sufferings ka bhi apna hi maza hai...

And,I hail this great human spirit of never say die ...

B'coz its not we who die but something inside us which make us die.
Never let that happen to you.Ever.

Wagah,Flags,Dance:The Patriot

Wagah(Indo-Pak Border),Amritsar,India:Two different days at different times at different ages there and both changed my life in a way.
Latter one is worth sharing.

It is one day of my life,I will never forget.

I,alongwith my friends went to Wagah Border.There is this Flag-lowering ceremony("Beating the Retreat").Famous for its histrionics.Armies on both sides try their best to outdo the other
to show hatred.And the intensity depends on the Indo-Pak relations at that time.
Though a few days back Indian Army has decided to slow down the intensity because of the better environment nowadays.

Reached there.First impression was :Pakistan's stands are more big and better placed to view the whole ceremony.
Many school children were there on Pakistan's side(May be a school trip).College girls and boys,full of Enthu.Their families cheering them loud.Fully Charged.Electrifying.

And Indian Border on this side,Army men,and families,like they are on a picnic.Just to watch and then go back home.Like they are afraid of something.Or just apathetic to anything.
I mean,as an Indian you felt like "Woh Jasba kahan gaya desh ke liye".

Aise hi nahin Bolte:Young Blood hai.We went through the lines.A yearning was there in the eyes.There were some flags with the Armyman who was checking us, readied to be given.
But were we the right owners of the Legacy.He looked into my eyes as if searching something.I ,into his.Both said something.(Please don't let us down.No,I won't let India Down.)

Defining moment.No words for that.First time in my life I realized what Country means to you and what Volcanoes burst inside when you feel it.
Indian team losing in Cricket,Soldiers fighting for freedom of people who they never had met...Desh,Mera Vatan. Mera Sub Kuch.Worth Dying for.

He gave us the flags.We took them and move to the stands.
On the Pakistan side,the atmosphere was nothing short of Mayhem.
People dancing on the road.Cheering their army.Allah hu Akbar.Pakistan Zindabaad.

And we were mute spectators.Enjoying watching them.C'monnnn... where is the spirit?What to afraid of?May be lack of initiative.

Most of the times we don't do things b'coz we are afraid what others will think of it?What the Hell?Who has the time and energy?And Who Carezzzzzz.
The song playing was 'Saare Jahan se ....'.Patriotic.But zing was missing.We stood up from our seats.Went to the Army personnel.Indian eyes watching the 5 young boys.
We requested them to please change the song to something,something which will make the Adrenalin pump.New song was 'jahan daal -2 pe sone...'Umm.Still missing.
'Aie Watan,Aie watan humko teri kasam...'.We stared Furling our flags and urging the Junta to come forward also.
The Momentum was building slowly and slowly.Some more youth and children peckered by their mothers joined.

Our chests were swollen with Pride.A responsibility was given to us and we won't let anybody down.
We raced to the Zero Line,dancing,furling high the Indian Flags.More and more people joined.Army men also.Seeing the Tempo,the beats were changed to Punjabi songs.Fast songs about Indian Glory.And the scene was Breathtaking.
All inhibitions lost,all dikhawa gone,people came forward.And they Danced.They Chanted.Hindustan Zindabaad.The whole stand was up and dancing,chanting.

The other side was surprised?Perhaps.They too shayad never expected such a response from Indian side.
We were not only competiting.We were actually Winning.
The beats of Dhols and Drums were increaing.Dhamm,Dhamm, Inqlaab ZIndabaad,Inqlaab Zindabaad.
Vande Matram, Vande Matram...

Long Live the Freedom Fighters.
Sab log deshbhakti ke rang mein rang gaye.
Yes,that was it.That was more like it.Indians have arrived.
They fought,they won.They conquered...
Freedom for which our forefathers toiled.Mother India feeling Proud.
India has arrived finally in a small place,outside the urbs,at an Army Post on the Border.
Heads held high,spirits soaring,Mouths Roaring...

And then the Bigul went out.Indian Army performed the Ceremony.The Pak Army,may be trying to gain some of the lost ground, tried a little too hard.While raising his leg,one Pak soldier fell down.Battle of nerves.And that small post has its share of it everyday,for years.
I can hardly imagine what could have happened with him afterwards.But he is a human."Treat me as a human treat another human".Sounds familiar...

After that,we were like war heroes coming after a great victory.Families lined up to have a Photograph with us.What was that?Us?Nah.
It was that Glorious Legacy in our hands-the Tricolor ...Tiranga.
"Bhaiya can I hold this flag",a small girl came to me."Yes,why not?".Loads of photographs were clicked.Alas!We didn't have any Camera of our own.

The good thing was that nobody criticized the others.We never heard discriminatory slogans from any side.There was competition,there was curiosity,there was hell lot of a things,but in that Maahaul,I didn't find an iota of animosity.Its Diplomats only who have this enmity.

The countdown has started.Its 48 days more to go and suddenly I am filled again with all those butterflies in my stomach which come when you are afraid.

The reasons are not hard to fathom.

Its been a constant fight against all odds and its me who is losing because the other side is myself only.

When you embark upon something great,you realize that constant struggles are not difficult if they are up against some external factors but to fight with yourself...

Preparing for CAT has taught me many things.

The consistency or the lack of it,focus and self motivating yourself on a daily basis are the keystones which define your personality in a big way.

One error and you are out of the game.

Have I really prepared?If I ask myself this question Honestly,the answer would be NO.

And I should be all prepared to face the results also.This procrastination,lack of single mindedness is driving me crazy and it is not only for CAT.

May be I am afraid of hard work.May be I am too smug or complacent to really care.

I once said that the biggest positive I can do in my life is to do full justice to my potential.

And the result is now tending towards minus Infinity...

All hell will break loose.

But then there is silverline in every cloud and in my case also it would be there.The earlier I see it,the better it is for me and the world.

Its New Year and all the time to look back and see what we have achieved in last year and make resolutions for the new year.
The what to do and What not to do list.
I wonder why its always the new year when People resort to such activity when we say that each day is a new begining.
Most of the times,One gets caught up in the frenzy of activities and just forget to do whatever he/she promised to him/herself.
Kinda sharp abrupt change at the new year rather than a smooth transition which is why ppl most of the times are not able to live up to their resolutions
